CONTRASTO SILENZIOSO
100 cm x 152 cm
A quite contrast takes form in lines and knots: Old and new. Soft and rough. A tension held together in silence.
In this composition, discarded nautical ropes are repurposed and integrated with the aim of exploring three-dimensionality and experimenting with different thicknesses, without resorting to materials such as wood or plastic. The choice of these elements, collected from fishing ports, workshops, and coastal areas, reflects a concern for sustainability and an appreciation of the history embedded in each fragment.
With varying degrees of wear, the ropes display a rich chromatic range, highlighting the natural color of the material, deep black with shades of gray. The shine and texture of the materials are accentuated by a base of new and delicated red cotton cord, which supports them through repeated knots, creating a rhythmic and minimalist pattern that forms a geometric and abstract structure.
“Contrasto Silenzioso” evokes the silence of the repurposed ropes: a work without sound, yet full of visual and tactile echoes. It is in this silence that the contrast is revealed - between the old and the new, the rough and the delicate, the soft cotton and the coarse nautical rope. The duality of the materials and colors establishes a striking visual and tactile contrast, which emerges silently yet expressively.
The piece invites contemplation, functioning as a restrained yet powerful presence, where matter becomes form and the material’s history is given new life in the present.
